Applications

More than 25 million homes in the US alone are now broadband enabled, and that number is increasing rapidly. Yet PC-based content and consumer entertainment (CE) content remain separate islands in many homes because there has been no simple, reliable way to share and distribute this multimedia content throughout the whole house.

Fortunately the solution to this problem is as close as the nearest wall socket. By using Intellon's HomePlug-based power line technology as the network backbone, service providers can now bridge these separate islands and deliver whole-house connectivity without expensive - and disruptive - Ethernet cables, phone lines and cable connections.

With power lines serving as the network backbone, every electrical outlet in the home instantly becomes a network access point. This means consumers can easily install advanced applications such as broadband sharing, WiFi extension and networked entertainment themselves. For service providers this also means no costly professional installations, no continuing service calls, and no new wires!

In addition to enhancing and extending the home WiFi environment, Intellon HomePlug-based technology opens the gateway for service providers to roll out "convergence" services such as VoIP and IPTV. These self-installed services generate new revenue streams for service providers while keeping customer support costs low.
